Building Socially Integrated Communities

Thrive at HomeCommunity

Calling all colleagues and seniors interested in addressing social isolation!

Whitney Center is hosting an informational event about a social isolation project being conducted by Quinnipiac University in collaboration with AARP: Building Socially Integrated Communities.

The prevalence of social isolation is a growing problem among older adults. The literature has shown that older adults and healthcare organizations could benefit when effective interventions to counteract social isolation are implemented. Social isolation is an aspect of health that cannot and should not be ignored as it leads to many costly negative health outcomes in older adults. Due to that fact, an intervention for social isolation may provide an opportunity to restore health to older adults while preserving resources.

Developing social integration in communities of older adults is important for improving health, happiness and overall quality of life.  The purpose of the event is to learn about a program designed to improve social integration and how you can get involved to help others afflicted with social isolation.

We encourage professionals serving older adults, as well as residents or members of your organizations to attend.
